~In Loving Memory Of My Beloved Husband, George, Charlie Weaver
          and Bob Day~
Three Great Men Who Are Now "Angels In The Outfield".

Dedicated To My Husband---Who Went To Be With The Lord July 5, 2002.
He Was The Joy Of My Life

I can never remember a time that George wasn't busy with helping children. He spent 20 years in the USAF, and we raised two wonderful, happy sons [as well as half the neighborhood kids]. :-) We loved *every* moment!! Our home was *always* open; and we had a house full of grinning, active boys every day! Oh...and many nights, also!

Baseball was a major part of our lives, and we were together (as a family) constantly. We started Little League when our oldest turned 5 years old and our youngest (4 years younger) also began Little League at age 5. Oh, the wonderful, happy memories we have with our boys.

They also played Middle School, High School and American Legion ball. When they married, they gave us such precious grandchildren! (2 boys and 1 girl)! Once again, baseball began anew! Now soccer also entered: Our granddaughter's game. Exciting to see a second generation of Athletes in the family!
          *S*

George also spent many years traveling. (United States Air Force). While in Central and South America, he assisted many children. He is a *very* caring person and has not changed since that wonderful day we were married. He is still loving, kind, generous and has agreat passion for helping people!

Here you see Little League Teams from Albrook Air Force Base (Panama) as well as Bolling AFB (Washington D.C.).

          *S*

We had a very good relationship with the Panamanian people. It was an honor to be invited, by the Mayor of a small town, to bring our Little League team into the Republic to play one of their teams.

When we arrived, we were treated to a fine luncheon. I was surprised at how "skinny" the chicken legs were! I thought, "How difficult it must be to feed so many with the economic situation in Panama, at the time." We felt honored to have all these wonderful kids (American and Panamanian) together, enjoying the things boys do. It was, however, a bit of a shock when we were told about our "skinny" chicken legs. The kind Mayor asked if our "Iguana" luncheon was satisfactory!!! Well...It was! *S*

("Hey, stop laughing...this is as close to an Iguana as I could get!")

We were thrilled to be there and continued onto the field and that great old sound, 'Play Ball.' However, George, being extremely safety- conscious, was uncomfortable allowing the Panamanian boys to step up to the plate, with bare-feet, wide grin, but... *no* helmet! Sooooo, George had each boy (and they were small) use our equipment. They had no gloves, only one ball and one "beat up" bat. They were amazing!!!

          "Kids United"

Our boys (who were undefeated in our American League) went into "shock" as each 'barefooted', grinning opponent stepped up and "destroyed" our perfect record. Those little guys beat us badly!!! *S*

How George did love these boys, their wonderful attitudes and their love of the game! He gave them *all* of our equipment. (smile) A few weeks later, he invited them to play at Albrook (our home field), and we served them the traditional baseball feast. Hotdogs!! They *loved* it!!

Still using the equipment they were given (and still wearing no shoes-just that beautiful, wide grin), they again proceeded to "whip-up-on-us!"

Of course, I have fond memories in DC, as well! Especially when (as a fund raiser) I ordered 200 boxes of candy bars. Two weeks later, arriving home from work, I was so excited to hear from my neighbor and good friend, Donna, that she had opened the door for the delivery people. The candy was inside, and I opened the door with "great expectation." What a surprise to find the 200 boxes I ordered had somehow taken over our entire home! Yup! *Quite* a surprise!

          There were 2000 boxes!!

Finding a space to move an inch was difficult, but guess what? Donna and I finally (and I do mean *Finally*) sold every box! It was a good season! We were able to purchase *everything* the teams needed. $$$$$
          (giggle)

George was Little League Vice President, and we worked as a team building fields. Bare hands, shovels, rakes, and determination built backstops, fences, dugouts, scoreboards and concession stands.

          (Midnight requisitions provided the bleachers)

There are many humorous stories concerning the building of these much- needed facilities! (tongue-in-cheek) We were totally self- sufficient. I cannot look at a candy bar today, without remembering "the good old days." *S*

Oh, don't think our little granddaughter isn't an athlete! She is in an Academically Gifted class, a cheerleader, a singer, dramatic actress (12 years old) and a *great* soccer player!

I hope you enjoyed meeting my husband, my true love! He has always been my inspiration and my best friend. I dedicate this page to a man who, at 5' 10" tall, stands so much taller in my eyes! And for the thousands of Little League guys he coached, helped with homework, taught respect, bought pizza and drove them anywhere they needed to go.

For always encouraging them, teaching them that winning is great-but fun is also very important. I thank you for all those things, George! Just as every boy did! You made a significant difference in their lives!

          Samantha
